Adidas vs Puma vs Nike
Nike and Adidas are, without doubt, my top two sport brands; "Impossible is nothing" and "Just do it".
A question I have found myself asking lately though is, can a sport brand bring success? Is there even such a thing? It would seem that success appears to attract the biggest sport deals probably because they are guaranteed the exposure.
As a keen follower of rugby and football, I have noticed something in the sporting world of these two disciplines; the champions of both are sponsored by one brand-Adidas. New Zealand, the most successful rugby side in the history of the game, is a team whose statistics include an unbeaten 14 international games in one season. And Spain, a side that's successfully defended their European crown and now for the World Cup its Germany who own the crown now. That's a streak of four major tournaments for the brand.
Well what about other sports? The greatest batsman in the history of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, is also sponsored by Adidas. It is without question that all this success sure is helpful to the stocks of Adidas, but lets take a brief moment to acknowledge Nike. Without focusing on the money aspect, let's take a look more at the success side of things. They have the world's number one male tennis player- Rafael Nadal and the current champions in most of the top leagues in European Atletico Madrid, PSG, Manchester City and Juventus (Football); yet Adidas technically took the European crown in the form of Real Madrid which is superior to all.
The current Ballon d'Or winner is a Nike athlete who took over from 4-time winner, Lionel Messi, an Adidas athlete. These two brands are represented well by the top teams and athletes. One must also take their hat off to Puma, who have the fastest man the world has ever seen and a couple of quality players. It is a fascinating battle indeed. That being said, whichever way we choose to look at it, the teams that are winning trophies and individual awards are, benefiting their brands massively. So here are the three teams from Puma, Nike and Adidas.
