New York City FC to go for Casillas
It seems that New York City FC are looking to sign Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas. Casillas is currently playing for Portuguese club Porto having left his boy hood club Real Madrid in the summer.
The United States has always been a good option for European players past their prime. It seems New York City FC would be looking to take advantage of that fact and persuade Casillas to leave Porto.
The former Real Madrid goalkeeper has been tied to Porto till 2017. He would have to leave Champions league football if he wants to play in New York.
The American club already boasts of some of the best European players with former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, former Barcelona striker International David Villa and former Juventus play maker Andrea Pirlo in their ranks. The addition of Casillas would certainly add more glamour to their squad.
The Real Madrid legend and World cup winner was out of favor at the Santiago Bernabeu with Keylor Navas ahead of the Spanish International. His spell at Porto has certainly given him an opportunity to play with the best of Europe.
Porto failed to qualify for the knock out stages of the Champions League but are due to play the round of 32 of the Europa League later this month against Dortmund.
It may not be a surprise if Casillas agrees a move to the United States, which would provide him with a chance to join his former Spain colleague David Villa.
