FA announce verdict on Costa - Gabriel incident
The Football Association of England has announced their verdict on the incident involving Diego Costa and Gabriel Paulista from Saturday's match between Chelsea and Arsenal. Gabriel was sent off in the match but Arsenal had appealed against the red card. Also there were some incidents in the game involving Costa which referee Mike Dean did not appear to see.
FA has on Tuesday confirmed that Arsenal's appeal for rescinding Gabriel's sending off has been successful. Arsenal reportedly used video footage from ESPN - Brazil to show that Gabriel had minimal contact on Costa for a foul which eventually got him sent off.
Gabriel's red card was overturned and the three match ban will be lifted with immediate effect. This means that Gabriel will be available for selection against Tottenham Hotspur for the midweek league cup clash. The Brazilian though, still faces charges for improper conduct for not leaving the field immediately after the red card.
Arsenal fans were furious after Mike Dean's decisions in the game and they even started an online petition asking for Mike Dean not to ever referee an Arsenal game again.
Meanwhile it was agony for Chelsea as Diego Costa was banned for his next three matches with immediate effect. Costa's antics in the game were reviewed by a three man independent committee of FA. The incidents were not spotted by the officials on field so a video footage was sent to the elite referee panel who decided that it should have been a red card for the Brazilian born striker.
Mourinho had praised Costa after the game saying that the striker was his man of the match and that he played the game exactly the way it should have been played. Chelsea released a statement on their website saying that they were extremely disappointed with FA's decision to ban Costa .
Costa will now miss the matches against Walsall in the league cup, and against Newcastle and Southampton in the league.
