Luis Suarez is the most devastating striker in the world. This is a debatable statement but at the conclusion of Barcelona’s treble winning season, it was a surprise to many when later on he was missing from the shortlist for the three best players in the world. Most of his fans are admirer of Luis Suarez from the time he helped Uruguay break African hearts in 2010 at the FIFA World Cup.

Luis Suárez
He took one for the team; a valiant, unselfish yet foxy action. The adage the name at the back is not as important as the name in the front was done justice. It was not an ego situation. It was a matter of Suarez doing whatever it took to get the side through. It gave Uruguay a lifeline and they took it, when Ghana missed the penalty. Suarez will never be the ideal role model off the pitch, even on it. What Suarez will always be is a brilliant footballer. However his plethora of transgressions will never let him be properly recognized as the world class footballer he is. To this day, his fans feel Arsene Wenger regrets not sending in a proper bid for the former Liverpool man when he sent in a cheeky bid for £40, 000,001.

The FIFA Ballon d’Or awards took place on the 11th of January and the top three players will fight it out for the award namely Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo the main actors. Three attacking behemoths in world football and one would have to wonder who you would drop to fit in the controversial Uruguayan. Cristiano Ronaldo who could easily win the award on the grounds that saw Lionel Messi win the award in 2010 was on fire in 2015 as he managed to be the top scorer in all top 5 leagues while breaking his own Champions League record.

Messi remains the best player in the world, one who could create a piece of brilliance from a run, a pass or nothing. His dazzling footwork against Athletic Bilbao was just scintillating. The toss up would be between Neymar and Luis Suarez and for me there is one winner. Suarez is like a fox; agile, quick, sharp, cunning, sly and fast. This is Luis. He was a big game player. Scoring the decisive goals in what was an amazing Champions League final. Suarez was always the alpha/main guy at all his clubs add in 8Uruguay. He got to Barca as more or less the third highest rated player in attack and duly adapted. Suarez would pass to an oncoming teammate when he would have easily scored. He has racked up an impressive 22 assists in the year add to that 48 goals. He was player defence splitting passes. Suarez became a team player as his shooting took a back seat so he could play in Messi and Suarez to form the formidable MSN.

Reputation will always last. No matter what happens to a player or coach. There is a reputation they will always have and it will stick. Diving around, conning the referees, asking him to book players, intimidating players (recently being banned for the silliest jibes against Espanyol) and referees. There is no hiding or avoiding the initiative. Suarez has one of the longest football offense lists in the history of football. However acknowledgement of his football skills must always take precedence over his conduct. Reward brilliance. Will he get another chance if he bites another player when at Barcelona? Chances are high that he will. His superior football skills will always have admirers and this was proven when he joined a Barca side that needed a bit of freshening up and instead of tarnishing the Barcelona image, he fired the side to yet another unprecedented treble.

Hate him or love him, Suarez deserved recognition in not just the team of the year but also on the Ballon d’Or shortlist. His football did the talking and it made a pretty loud shout.

The Blaugrana superstar praised the thick friendship among the Barcelona players as the key to their incredible run in 2015. The Catalan giants have won five major trophies this year, with the latest being the FIFA Club World Cup yesterday.

Barcelona complete glorious 2015 with Club World Cup triumph over River Plate
Messi talked about the friendly atmosphere in the dressing room and hailed all players for standing for each other.

"We have a fantastic relationship in the dressing room. We have been playing together for a long time and that helps us. Our group is stronger because of this familiarity." The Argentine spoke after winning the coveted trophy for the third time.

"We have been playing together for quite a long time and it has helped us to understand better", Messi added.

With the win against River Plate in the final, Barcelona became the only club to win the global trophy three times. Luis Suarez and Messi found the back of the net against River Plate, in what looked like a one-sided match.

FC Barcelona won their fifth UCL trophy after defeating Italian giants Juventus 3-1 in the Champions League final in Berlin on Saturday.

Barcelona defeated Juventus to be the European champions for the fifth time
Ivan Rakitic scored the first goal after 4 minutes into the game. Luis Suarez then scored in the 68th and Brazilian Neymar in stoppage time, which sealed a treble for the Catalans who also won La Liga and the Spanish King's Cup.

Both FC Barcelona and Juventus played outstanding attacking football in one of the greatest European finals and Italian giants pushed Barcelona all the way, cancelling out Rakitic's early strike for a while when Alvaro Morata equalized after 55 minutes.

The nail biting final lifted football's spirits following the revelations in the recent FIFA corruption scandal.

The Champions League win also provided Xavi with a successful send-off to his career with the Catalan giants before he joins Qatari club Al Saad.

We look at the recently released Ballon d'Or and Coach of the year lists from Benedict Chanakira's perspective. A world Cup year is always fascinating and has lots of football at stake. The biggest positive being the amount of waiting time fans get between the end of a season and the start of preseason friendlies or start of the next season. Brazil produced one of the biggest spectacles to date including the record breaking 7-1 German win over the host nation which saw the victors power to a fourth world cup triumph. Real Madrid completed the Decima and Manuel Neuer was mesmerizing!

Ballon d'or winner- There can only be one winner and that is Cristiano Ronaldo! I am convinced should the man go in goal he'd be better than Neuer. Untouchable. Unplayable. Superman. The Portuguese captain and talisman has been the difference not just for Real Madrid but in world football. Having powered Madrid to the much coveted 10th title in Europe he also set the record for most Champions league goals in a season. That was not the only throne he managed to reclaim from Lionel Messi, but also that of the best player in the world. It has not slowed down as the forward has started the season like a runaway train. He has managed a mammoth 22 goals in 15 appearances. He could afford to have a wasteful El clasico as Madrid ran riot against an exposed Barcelona. A close second would have to be  Messi who despite an injury ravaged season put in a master class in Brazil and had it not been for Gonzalo Higuain's miss early on would have led them to glory. Arjen Robben who like Messi single handedly powered the Dutch to third,  Manuel Neuer who has redefine the role of a goalkeeper has been monumental and countryman Thomas Mueller closely behind them. Top performers not just at the global showpiece but also at club level.

Missing Suarez? Dubious FIFA! - I am not a fan of FIFA. They have made some dubious decisions over the last few years whether its to do with Ballon d'or winners or disciplinary actions. I applaud their consistency in biased and senseless decisions. A matter to highlight is the Don; Sepp Blatter's mouth is ungoverned. Remember those comments against Ronaldo? Now Messi didn't deserve the golden ball at the World Cup. This is what puts me in doubt when it involves the governing body. The system brings into question the accuracy of their choices and the criteria of their award selections. Why didn't Wesley Sneijder win the 2010 award? World Cup finalist and treble winner? I must say the omission of Luis Suarez the Uruguayan star is puzzling.I admit his biting habits are unacceptable and leave as a bad example for youngsters. Liverpool managed to finish second and all due to a burst of 31 goals (joint top with Ronaldo in Europe). Albeit he missed the first 10 games and was still a powerful goal machine. How can he be missing among the best 23 players in the world. The severity of his offense is never as threatening as horrid tackles, diving and the racism in the game which receive minimal punishments. I agree with Luis who said biting is really not dangerous I compare it to two foot lunges, horrid tackles, diving which has a bigger threat to the opponent.  Luis Suarez has become a target and is also synonymous in the last offense too. His omission a travesty of justice nonetheless. To rob the football man of an honor which he rightly deserves! Its just a harmless bite at the end of the day!

Team of the year- To compile a team of the year using the Ballon d'or shortlist is a challenge. I will employ a (3-5-2) system and will allow the mercurial Angel di Maria and Arjen Robben as wing backs. Neuer will be in goal and was a pivotal sweeper and a formidable last line of defense for Germany. A ploy that has seen majority of the World's shot stoppers implementing. Albeit with a couple of howlers. Sergio Ramos, Philip Lahm and Javier Mascherano will form a versatile, ball playing back three with aerial ability, physicality and experience. Mat Hummel's omission puzzles me! Di Maria and Robben will play as wing backs. They have had the experience of that role and will add an attacking threat moving forward. Toni Kroos and Paul Pogba will sit in front of the back four and while offering protection will add the dynamic of pin point passing forward. Thomas Muller will play behind and Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to complete my team!

Coach of the year- The winner is straightforward for me. I must note the ten are all exceptional coaching talents with Jose Mourinho chief among all of them for me. However in the context and relevance of the 2013\2014 season three stand out for me; Carlo Ancelotti , Joachim Löw and Diego Simeone. It has to be the Atletico Madrid mentor for me. Not just managing to prevent Barcelona and Real Madrid from league glory, but his ability to use a squad that was not as good as all three in comparison and come out on top. Simeone was a Champions League winner had it not been for a missing man on the goal line. With his disciplinary record like Zinedine Zidane the award will probably go to the German. Special mention to the two who closely follow. Those whose achievements are not to be ignored. Germans had talent in abundance and credit to Löw for mixing it up and finally delivering the World Cup. Carlo Ancelotti the Italian is top class. He has allowed himself to set records as he won his third Champions league as manager joining Bob Paisley. He has also managed to win the much coveted la dēcima which Real have tried to buy for 12 years.
