Kingsley Coman - Player profile
Kingsley Coman scored his first ever goal for Bayern in Saturday's game against SV Darmstadt 98 when he drilled in a cutback from Sebastian Rode past the goalkeeper.
Many were surprised when the youngster chose to move away from Juventus this summer on loan. He played in 20 games for the Italian giants last season and looked like building a career there, after he was awarded the man of the match in his debut for Juventus. He even got to play a part in the final of last year's Champions league.
Juventus had tied him up on a contract which ran until 2019 and it looked like the teenager would stay at Italy with no particular reason for him to move. But Coman is a natural winger who likes to exploit space with his pace but in a Juventus side where they play with no wingers, Coman had to play as a second striker to gain game time. Coman showed glimpses of his quality while at his time there but he was not entirely comfortable in that position.
With four years left on his contract, no team appeared to move for Coman, but it all changed after Vidal completed his move to Bayern. Vidal had seen Coman in their training sessions together and knew well what the teenager is capable of if played in his natural role. Vidal publicly urged Bayern to sign up the winger from Juventus.
"Kingsley is not only a young player, but is also incredibly fast and has a lot of quality,"
"He has a bright future ahead of him. He would be a fine signing for Bayern if he were to follow me to Munich."
Vidal was quoted by Bild.
Coman had a better chance of getting game time at Juventus challenging with Cuadrado instead of playing backup to the likes of Robben, Ribery and Costa at Bayern. But Vidal somehow managed to convince the youngster to join Bayern on loan. The two year loan deal was worth €7 million with an option of making it permanent for a further €21 millions. Bayern and Guardiola are known for their readiness to give youngsters a chance, and when Coman was given his, he duly delivered.
Coman scored in his second league appearance for Bayern, and even if it was against Darmstadt, the goal will give a massive confidence boost to the youngster. Coman had shown what he is capable of a couple of days before against Olympiacos too, after setting up Gotze and winning a penalty late on in the match.
Coman is capable of playing in either wing and through the centre. Coman is quick, skillful and has good technical ability. But he will need to continue in this form if he is to get minutes in a start studded Bayern line up.
Coman will be a miss for Juventus, but Juventus has not played with a winger for a long time now and Coman would have never got his chance as a winger there probably. And after snapping him up on a free transfer from PSG, Juventus could make a huge profit if the deal goes through. As for Bayern, they have found a gem of a player and if he develops well in two years, this fee could even prove to be a bargain.
