It seems Manchester United want to improve their attacking department and the player they have chosen for the same is Mauro Icardi.

Manchester United had a £23million bid for Inter striker Icardi in January
There are reports suggesting that United had made a offer in the winter transfer window for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. The bid was reported to be in the range of 30 million Euros. However, the Argentine was not able to make his move since Inter Milan rejected the bid from United.

Icardi was named the club captain by Inter Milan manger Mancini but his relationship with the manager has not been the best this season. Icardi, a Real Madrid target last summer, had to be content on the bench at times this season. Hence, the striker has not been entirely happy with his position and wants a move away from the club.

United were looking to take advantage of the current situation with the Argentina International but Inter Milan have stood firm against any potential move with respect to the striker. However, how long Inter would be able to keep off any potential suitors still remains to be seen.

After an ordinary campaign this season, United will certainly look to strengthen this summer. With Lewandowski being reportedly a target for Real Madrid, United may well be able to get a clear run with respect to Icardi.
