Liverpool hit with double injury blow
Liverpool have been dealt with a double injury blow with two of their in form players Danny Ings and Joe Gomez set to be out for the rest of the season.
Gomez and Ings, both are new signings at Liverpool and had impressed in their first few appearances for the club.
With Benteke out, and Sturridge still coming back from injury, Ings had gotten a run of games in the first team and he was in good form prior to getting injured. Ings, who made his England debut on Monday night, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a routine training session at Melwood. The injury has hampered his chances of being part of England's Euro Cup team next summer. Ings had scored three goals in his last five appearances for the club.
Joe Gomez ruptured his knee ligaments while playing for the England U-21s in a 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan. His manager Gareth Southgate initially said that the injury was not too serious but it looks worse than initially feared and reports suggest that the youngster could be out for the whole season. Joe Gomez, who can play anywhere in Liverpool's back four had been impressive after joining Liverpool from Charlton this summer.
Ings and Gomez joins Tim Krul and Luke Shaw who are also set to miss the entire season through injury.
Liverpool are having an injury crisis now and with Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke all out injured already, new manager Jurgen Klopp will have some selection headaches ahead of Liverpool's clash against Tottenham on Saturday. Youngster Jon Flanagan who missed the whole of last season through injury is still injured and will be out for at least a couple more months.
