William Carvalho
Sporting star William Carvalho has issued a come and get me plea to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Carvalho was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer but Wenger chose to not sign a defensive midfielder and stick with Mathieu Flamini as his backup instead. And now with the Portuguese star publicly stating his love for the club, fans will want Wenger to make a move to bring him to the Emirates.
Speaking in an interview, Carvalho said that he is happy to stay at Sporting but that there is a club which he has always wanted to move and that is Arsenal. He also mentioned that he was a big fan of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Carvalho is a strong and hard tackling defensive midfielder and would bring the much needed grit and guile to Arsenal's midfield. And with him being just 23 years old, he can provide healthy competition for Francis Coquelin.
Wenger passed up on several opportunities to sign a defensive midfielder this summer, and saw players like Sami Khedira and Morgan Schneiderlin move to other clubs instead. Carvalho was the favorite to make a switch to Arsenal but an injury suffered in the Euro U-21s tournament scuppered the deal. Carvalho, though impressed for Portugal and was named the best player of the competition.
Carvalho has now returned from injury and played against Vitoria before the international break.
Carvalho has a £33.3 million release clause in his contract and that will make Wenger think twice before moving for him.
