Roma held Barcelona to 1-1 draw to earn a vital point in their Champions league opener. Suarez gave Barca the lead but Florenzi scored one back before half time to level the scores.

Alessandro Florenzi scored a stunning goal from midfield last night against FC Barcelona
Barcelona dominated possession as expected and it was always going to be a tough night for Roma's defenders. It was Suarez who opened the scoring as he, standing unmarked at the far post, headed in Rakitic's cross in the 21st minute.

There was controversy surrounding the Uruguayan as there were claims for diving when Suarez went down too easily after a challenge by Szczesny.

It was then Alessandro Florenzi who produced the moment of the game. Surging through the right flank, the midfielder ran from his own half past the half way line, looked up to see ter Stegen caught out of position, and lobbed past the keeper from around 50 metres away from the goal.

Szczesny made another smart save to deny Suarez and got hurt in the process, injuring his arm colliding with the striker. The Pole was then replaced by Morgan De Sanctis in goal.

There were then claims for a penalty when Naingollan was fouled inside the penalty area. Barcelona were pushing to look for a winner but Roma defence stood strong.

Lionel Messi was stifled for most part of the game but the Argentine had his moment when he clipped the ball above the substitute goalkeeper only to be denied by the crossbar.

Barcelona will not be too concerned with the result as they have still matches left to reach the top spot. It will be a morale boosting win for the Italian side though and they will look to capitalize on this in their future games.
