Arsene Wenger is stubborn but for once he denied history an opportunity to repeat itself. Arsenal did learn a few lessons. They did not lose, managed to deny Mirallas a goal and showed grit.
A champion reacts, a champion responds and that is what the Gunners managed. Alexis Sanchez off should have killed any belief Arsenal fans had but alas it was a change that lit up the game. Facing unlimited criticism from both Arsenal and other teams' fans, Olivier Giroud made a statement. He missed some decent early chances but grabbed the equalizer at the end after creating a synergy with Joel Cambell. The young World Cup star in his brief spell displayed a football brain and a hunger to impress.
Despite a gutsy comeback, this must not take away the matters at hand Arsenal need re-enforcements in departments they lack. They need some real physicality in the center of midfield, a striker and with Gibbs always injured and Monreal beyond unconvincing, a left back. Focus now shifts to that crucial Champions League qualifier against Besiktas!
Everton let up a lead for the second match in a row. This week it was in the most cruel of fashions. The home side used a similar blue-print to that of last season were they won 3-0. Lukaku exploiting the Monreal flank and using a combination of power and brilliance. They lacked the killer third goal which was due to missed opportunities and at times, selfishness. Roberto Martinez is able to compete with the big teams but may need squad depth to go the length. Next up is a fixture against Chelsea. Its not getting easier and should be one he relishes but also one his talisman will be up for.
The Premier League is up and running and is as exciting and drama-filled as ever. A few days until the transfer window is closed and from today's performances, the two sides need a few more signings to achieve their title and European ambitions.
