Southampton out to avoid Blades

This will be their first meeting in this competition and it will be off the back of Southampton knocking their more illustrious opponents in Arsenal. Focus now shifts to their less glamorous opponents who have an impressive record in the knockout competitions.

The Blades have the most fascinating form guide when it comes to cup competitions. Sheffield United, under Nigel Clough, have lost the solitary game in the last 15 clashes. They managed to knock out Aston Villa and Fulham last season, and have had to deal with the high flying West ham United this year; knocking the Hammers out. Could the Cup specialists claim another big scalp? The third tier side will welcome Southampton to Bramall Lane tonight and will look to capitalize on their poor run of form. The Saints have lost all the early season momentum and have managed to lose their last four clashes. Some would say in an unfortunate manner but such is football. Southampton will be hoping England striker Jay Rodriguez returns soon as the forward is expected to boost the sides finishing which is really missed. Morgan Schneiderlin and James ward-Prowse are set to return in this fixture and it will be a timely boost for the away side who will seek to use this opportunity to gain confidence once again and some momentum.

Key Players:

Fraser Forster has been a constant performer for Ronald Koeman's side and despite the howler a few weeks ago has been impressive in goal. A clean sheet will do the English International good, and boost his side as well.

Nigel Clough will play a key role in this game. Can he tactically mastermind a win against quality opposition? Saints have not scored at Bramall Lane in four of their last five visits there. Can Cough continue this run with the opposition in no man's land?

Southampton to narrowly edge the host, in what will be a tough match.
