Weekend wrap up: 5 more lessons

Mexicans ambush Asian champions

Cruz Azul will join the Auckland City giant killers as they managed a 3-1 extra time win over the Western Sydney Wanderers. The match was played in lottery conditions. Any of the two teams could have won as the Wanderers led with two minutes to go. Gerardo Torrado scored two from the spot including one two minutes from full time to send the clash into extra time. Despite a poor performance from the Ivory Coast referee Cruz Azul left it late, and stepped up a notch to beat the  9-man**** champions from Asia. They face the mighty Real Madrid looking to make the final. The Mexicans will need to start off better if they are to have any chance against their more fancied, and much more formidable opponents.

Jose's talking again

Not many seem to draw as much attention from the media as the Portuguese manager. Quotes have come in abundance over the years with many seemingly funny, offensive, confusing and outright disrespectful. Mourinho's latest milestone includes claiming a record 401 points in the Premier league in just 174 games, the fastest in the division ahead of legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. The manager spoke at lengths at how he would not want to win the manager of the month, which saw the winner's team lose their next game (Newcastle-Alan Pardew). We've heard a similar song, how Eden Hazard has never won the players' version of the award despite his master-class performances. So with a win percentage of 70%, how has he managed just three or is four of these awards? Could his theory of being conspired against be true? Do the panel really not like Jose Mourinho because for his caliber the award should be a main stay. For now, Jose remains top of the league and not worried about the award.

Manchester United 6-0-0

Played six, won six and on a march. They look like their former selves as they swept aside their rivals. In March they managed to lose 3-0 to the same opposition and how things change in football. Liverpool saw the manager tweak the side and it went horribly wrong. Without Sturridge and Suarez they have no finisher. Brendan Rodgers is under even more pressure and faces the Gunners next. Starting Brad Jones and leaving Mario Balotelli on the bench was not smart as the forwards movement was exceptional.

Spurs march on, PSG fall

Spûrs continued their dominance over Swansea as Harry Kane and a late Christian Eriksen goal proved to be enough. Swansea and Liverpool were testament of dominating chances and possession not winning you games. Harry Kane is continuing to prove his quality and is one of the best young English prospects. Guingamp, fresh from their Europa league exploits, managed to stop the last unbeaten team in Europe as PSG fell. It was a well rounded performance by the minnows and they deserve the three points.
