The European leagues wrapped up the final matches of their first half of the season. Some powerful displays saw Barcelona thrash Cordoba, Bayern edged an impressive Mainz to go 14 clear in Germany. The Serie A saw a clash of two giants as AS Roma faced AC Milan in a stale draw. The result had no effect at the top as Juventus was top with fixtures resuming a week into the New Year. Paris St Germain failed to win at home against Montpelier which left Marseille top going into the winter break.
Suarez got his first goal in La Liga. A wait of 570 minutes came to an end after a cut back from Pedro who had opened the scoring. Barcelona saw Leo Messing grab a double late on with his right foot. A rare sight, as Barcelona ended the year having scored 13 goals in their last two games. Could they be finding their rhythm? Bayern are well clear of the rest and managed to display their grit as they won against Mainz with a Arjen Robben strike. Rivals Dortmund will end the year in the drop zone and face a huge fight to get out. Missed chances, poor defending and school boy errors were the reasons for their demise.
French champions PSG continued their poor form and now require the winter break to reassess their season. With Chelsea on the horizon a change in fortune required or they may pack their bags early this season in the Champions League. In Italy, Juventus are like Benfica. They are masters of their domestic runs but poor in Europe. They both face only one challenger, AS Roma and FC Porto respectively. As the Premier league heats up, other leagues take a break!!
