The master, Robert Pires took some time to settle in to the Premier League but once he did, he took it by storm! Mostly played out wide, he took Arsenal’s fast-paced quick-passing game into his stride comfortably. Deft touches to beat his man were always a delight to watch. His technical ability could never be argued against. Memorable goals include the curling screamer versus Liverpool in the unbeaten season, the flick-over-defender followed my lob-over-keeper in the season he won Player of the Year, and 40-50 curling chip from the sideline versus Southampton.
Even during his latter days at the club where he was used mostly as a sub, one could see the difference in tempo of Arsenal’s play whenever he would come on. He is surely a true Arsenal legend and a genius.
