Both the teams come to this fixture on back of contrasting runs in their domestic leagues. While City sits atop the Premier league table with five wins out of five, Juventus needed a late penalty to get their first point of the season in last week's game against Chievo.
But Manchester City knows that their league form will mean nothing as they take on the Italian giants on Tuesday. After all their dismal record of just 3 wins out of 11 Champions league home games speaks for itself. Experience counts a lot in European competitions and City knows that they will have to work hard to get anything in the game against last year's finalists.
Manchester City has been handed a tough group yet again and they will need to learn from their past mistakes and do better this time around. They are yet to concede a goal this season and their back four look pretty stable. They also possess an attacking arsenal that most European teams would envy. But injuries to key players means that Manchester City will be most likely without David Silva and Raheem Sterling for the tie. Striker Sergio Aguero has also been ruled out with a knee injury. But the summer spending spree has ensured that they will still have a formidable attack led by Kevin De Bruyne to play Juventus on their UCL opener.
Juventus meanwhile have picked up just one point from their three league games so far. The summer departures of Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal seems to have hit the club hard and they just don't look like the side they were last year. They seem to miss the calmness of Pirlo and the steel of Vidal badly. Central midfield looks to be a real concern for the Old Lady going into this match with both Claudio Marchisio and Sami Khedira missing out through injury.
Juventus knows that they will need to continue their last year's form in Europe to get back to being the superpower in Europe they once were. Worryingly for Juve, they haven't won in England since 1996, when a Del Piero goal defeated Manchester united. There will be eyes on Paul Pogba too as he is set to start against the team who were trying to buy him this summer.
Juventus' attack doesn't seem very convincing and with the City defence in such good form, it would be hard for the Italian club to score past them. Juve's best chance of getting anything from the game would be by keeping things solid at the back and trying to keep City's attackers quiet. Manchester City needed a last gasp winner against Crystal Palace last week and with their key attackers likely to miss the game, they may find the Bianconeri defence hard to break down as well.
Prediction: Manchester City 1-0 Juventus
