Real Madrid have been dealt with an injury blow after Pepe suffered a muscle injury in the 2-1 mid week win against Athletic Bilbao.
Pepe sustained a knock during the game and tests were carried out at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital. Real Madrid issued a statement saying that the defender has been diagnosed with a muscular injury caused by a knock to his left leg. His condition is being evaluated.
Pepe missed training on Friday following the knock and will not play against Malaga today.
Real Madrid will also be without Sergio Ramos who is out of action with a shoulder problem. In the absence of both the first choice centre backs, Rafael Benitez will be pairing Raphael Varane along with Nacho Fernandez in the heart of defence against Malaga.
Real Madrid have been superb defensively under Rafael Benitez and have just conceded one goal this season. But with both his first choice defenders missing, Rafa will have to do some tinkering to keep the defensive stability.
Still, Real Madrid should come through without much problems against a Malaga side that has been struggling in the league so far. Malaga lie 19th in the table and has yet to score in the league and that is unlikely to change when the two sides meet at the Santiago Bernabeu.
