After another week of action in English football, we look at the best performers in each position from this week's Premier league action:
1. Goalkeeper
|
Adrian made 8 saves as West Ham defeated Manchester City 2-1 |
It was a tough choice between David De Gea and Adrian, but we have decided to go with Adrian. Adrian wasn't that solid in the first half of the game but during the second half, when City was looking for an equalizer, it was Adrian who stood firmly to deny them. The highlight was a brilliant save to deny Otamendi from a late corner. Although De Gea was brilliant against Southampton, Adrian's performances were more crucial for his team and earned them an unlikely win away at Etihad.
2. Defenders
|
Kurt Zouma was delighted to score the opening goal of Saturday's 2-0 win over Arsenal. |
The centre-back pairing would be between Winston Reid and Kurt Zouma. Reid was a rock at the heart of West Ham defence and deserves as much credit as Adrian for holding firm in the second half against City. Zouma opened the scoring for Chelsea against Arsenal while also remaining solid at the back, not getting harried by Walcott's pace.
The full backs who were exceptional this week are Alberto Moreno and Simon Francis. Moreno was a threat going forward for Liverpool and was rewarded with an assist for Ings' goal. Simon Francis was solid at the back for Bournemouth with also being a threat when he went forward, as Bournemouth earned their first home win of the campaign.
3. Midfielders
|
Kevin De Bruyne |
Cesc fabregas silenced his critics with a sublime performance against Arsenal. He was constantly looking for balls over the top of Arsenal's backline and he got the assist for Zouma's opener. Partnering him in the centre is the more defensive minded player, Etienne Capoue. The former Spurs player gave Watford some defensive stability and also got an assist against Newcastle in their 2-1 win.
Matt Ritchie was one of Bournemouth's star players last year in the Championship and he showed everyone what he is capable of with a strike that could well be the goal of the season. De Bruyne was impressive in his first start for City and marked it with a goal from outside the box. Another new arrival makes it to the list to complete the midfield and it is Son Heung Min from Tottenham. The attacking midfielder scored against Crystal Palace, continuing his fine midweek form, to put the game to bed.
4. Forwards
|
Anthony Martial |
After a lot of talk regarding the amount of money involved in his transfer, Martial is proving what he is worth with his stellar performances for United. He carried on where he left off last week and scored two goals against Southampton to give his team a crucial away win. The teenager showed remarkable composure for the second goal that belied his age and United might have a real gem of a player in him.
