Arsenal are reportedly readying a bid in the region of £22 million to land Spanish play-maker Isco from Real Madrid.
Arsene Wenger has been following the youngster for a long time now and might finally pull the trigger to get him to the Emirates this summer. Wenger is keen to add to his attacking options and Isco will be a perfect fit to Arsenal's system. If Wenger could get the midfielder for just £22 million, then it could be a real bargain.
Isco has been shifted to the right of Real Madrid's attacking trio for Gareth Bale to play in his favored central midfield position this season. Isco faces tough competition for game time at Real Madrid with Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez, Luka Modric all vying for Isco's favored central role.
But Isco doesn't seem to be bothered by the competition and has delivered four assists so far this season. He has started six league games for Madrid so far this season.
Arsenal failed to add a single outfield player in the summer and if Wenger could get Isco to North London, the fans will be more than satisfied. Arsenal have a lot of players in central midfield but Isco's quality is unquestioned and will slot straight into the first team.
Wenger tried to sign Isco once when he was at Malaga, but instead opted for his teammate at the time, Santi Cazorla. But now Isco looks set to be the replacement for Santi Cazorla, who is already 30 and was subject of a move back to Spain last summer. Cazorla is known for his vision, dribbling and his two-footedness, and Isco possesses all those qualities.
He is one of the best dribblers in La Liga and over the past three seasons, only Messi has completed more through balls than him. Isco has a wide range of passing and him playing alongside Francis Coquelin will bring balance to Arsenal's midfield. Isco has played in a similar deeper role for Real Madrid before and his performances in that role surely would have caught Wenger's eye.
Isco, who is only 23, is much younger than Cazorla, and can be a mainstay in Arsenal's midfield for years to come. With Wenger's policy of bringing in one world class player every year, it could be the diminutive midfielder next year.
