FC Barcelona made headlines on Monday when they cancelled Sergi Guardiola's contract hours after signing him for FC Barcelona B team.
Guardiola (not related to Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola) was unveiled as a new signing for Barcelona B on Monday afternoon and got his contract terminated by evening for posting offensive messages towards the club and Catalonia on Twitter.
He did claim that he was personally not responsible for those offensive tweets.
One of the tweets "Hala Madrid", which was in support of the club's arch rival Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old claimed that the tweets were a joke posted by his friend in 2013 and he had no idea that they still existed.
It is not for the first time that FC Barcelona have done something of this kind. The club took similar action when they wanted to sign Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos but opted out due to his comments made about the whistling of the national anthem during Barça and Athletic Bilbao Copa del Rey final.
