Manchester United 1-2 Norwich : LVG Out?

Before the match against Norwich, there were rumors that if United's form continues in the same manner, ironically, the teacher may follow the fate of his student in the near future. Their form has been dreadful in the last five games and it got only worse with Norwich bagging their first win at Old Trafford since 1989.

To be fair, United started on the front foot against Norwich. Rooney, in particular, was looking sharp in the initial stages but started fading away as the game went on. Although United as usual bossed the possession statistics, Norwich did give a warning with their swift counter attack ability at times.

Finally, the goal did arrive for the Canaries. It was again a quick counter attack initiated by some good piece of skill by Tettey. Jerome went past again the on rushing Ashley Young and kept his cool with a good finish past De Gea. After the first goal, Manchester United started to look tepid and lacked the same sharpness they showed at the start.

However, the worst was yet to come for LVG. It was another break away for Norwich with Jerome quickly releasing the ball to Tettey, who poked it past a hapless De Gea in the bottom corner. When a team looks to play on the counter, it is extremely important to take your chances and that was exactly what Norwich did.

United quickly responded on the other end through Martial amidst some confusion in the Norwich box. However, it turned out to be a mere consolation in the end. The late pressure failed to provide any dividends with Smalling, who had a great chance, heading wide in the final stages of the game.

The result has clearly incited a period of disillusionment among the Old Trafford faithful. United have now failed to win in their last six games and the pressure is certainly mounting on LVG. Ironically, it is Mourinho, who stated earlier that he does not wish to have a break, is being touted as a possible replacement for Louis Van Gaal.
