Budget cuts at Manchester United

It seems a bit perplexing when a club like Manchester United demands substantial cuts with respect to their budget, going up to 15 %, in certain key departments of the club.

According to reports, United's controversial owners are keen on trimming costs at Old Trafford
The huge Broadcast deal coupled with the £750 million sponsorship deal with Adidas suggested that the Premier league club would certainly be flusy with cash.

However, it seems that their American owners, the Glazers, often mired in controversy have demanded budget cuts in almost all departments, excluding the first team. This could be a huge blow to the image of the club considering the club is trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

The club has also earlier been criticized for not appointing a new academy manager, although they have recently been in talks with Oxford United manager, Appleton for the same.

There have been reports that the United academy has been suffering and the output is already behind the likes of academies associated with Manchester City and Chelsea.

It has also been touted as one of the reasons why Appleton, who has done a wonderful job at Oxford United, may be wary about taking the job. The recent budget cut, which is also affecting the youth academy, will certainly not make matters any better for the new academy manager.
