Newcastle may be one of the teams fighting a relegation battle in the Premier league. However, they have made an audacious bid for Olympique Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The bid is supposedly surprising given that the striker was rumored to be chased by the likes of Arsenal last summer.
Reports state that there is a verbal offer by Newcastle in the range of 25 million Euros but Lyon insist that they want around 30 million Euros. Newcastle have always been one of the few premier league teams who have been quite busy in the last few January transfer windows and with the club currently being part of a relegation battle, the thought of added reinforcements is not surprising.
The fact that they are raiding Ligue 1 for the same is also not something new given that they have always preferred the French league due to the possibility of getting more value for money. However, although the deal looks close in terms of the bidding range, it may face some obstacles given the lofty ambitions of the French International.
Lacazette was very highly regarded by many of the top European clubs because of the stellar season he enjoyed in 2014-15 wherein he scored 27 goals. However, his stock has reduced lately because of the fact that he has just scored 6 goals this season and also failed to get Lyon out of the Champions League group stage.
With still time left in the January transfer window and given the past history of Newcastle's signings, this deal is very much a possibility.
