Liverpool’s Downfall

This past season has been a roller coaster for Liverpool supporters as performances have not been consistent. Liverpool have not yet won three consecutive games in the 2014/15 season, which is a devastating statistic compared to last season. It has become frustrating to most fans to continue having high hopes, and being disappointed every weekend. Saturday, December 6th, Liverpool drew against Sunderland and once again drew against FC Basel on December 9th. There are many reasons as to why Liverpool is suffering a downfall, injuries, the players, and Brendan Rodgers.

Once again #RodgersOut has become a popular trending subject on twitter, and the Rodgers Out tweets have begun! Brendan Rodger’s team selections for matches are now being criticized because they have not yet worked out. Against Basel he put up a questionable starting line up that only featured two of the new seven signings, and only 3 in total made an appearance. Many have begun to wonder why he purchased Adam Lallana, Alberto Moreno, Javi Manquillo, and Emre Can. Another popular complaint is the fact that Fabio Borini seems to always be forgotten, even when needed. Rumors about the sacking of Rodgers are quite popular, and claims that Liverpool will need to find a mid-season back up are appearing in various sources. The club has released no official statements, but supports assume that it is merely a matter of time.

Liverpool has not been lucky this season regarding injuries, most star players have been ruled out during crucial times. Daniel Sturridge’s injury has had the most impact on the club’s season. Such high hopes for the English striker, and unfortunately none have been met. He is expected to return in January after being sent to Los Angles for rehabilitation. Sakho was the next Liverpool player to be ruled out due to injury. He has missed various games in which he was desperately needed to reinforce the defense. Mario Balotelli, Liverpool’s most exciting signing in the summer, suffered an injury that ruled him out for important matches. Although he hasn’t made the impact everyone expected him too, Balotelli is still missed by the team.

The players who are currently starting in every game seems as though they lack desire. When it comes to the matches, their performances have let down supporters weekly. It was clear in Liverpool’s game against FC Basel, in which nine out of the eleven on the pitch were boring and missing passion in their performances. It is unacceptable for players to be playing in that manner especially when Liverpool is in this dreadful situation.

Liverpool must step up, and as for supports; they must continue to back up the Reds!
