Happy New Year! Liverpool fans have been given a fantastic Christmas present over the last two weeks, as the Reds have finally started to perform like they did last season. The fast counter attacks are becoming more common, and the goals are starting to go in.
However, this does not mean that all is perfect. Brendan Rodgers cannot use current form as an excuse to not sign anyone, as obvious gaps have been left, notably up front. Of course, Daniel Sturridge is on his way back from injury, but surely that will not be enough. One team cannot rely on one man. Therefore more strikers, more goal providers and goal preventers are needed. In this article I will count down the top ten Liverpool Transfer Rumors:
Karim Benzema. Apparently, Real Madrid are ready to cash in on their prolific French striker. One would wonder why they would do this, but as Real Madrid are possibly the richest club in the world, they could probably find an even better replacement. Obviously, Benzema would not be cheap, and it is rumored Liverpool would have to cough up 50 million pounds. Personally, I do not believe this transfer will happen, as it is not a typical FSG transfer. FSG (Fenway Sports Group) are the owners of not only Liverpool FC, but also the successful baseball team “The Boston Red Sox”. When FSG initially took over the Red Sox, they were struggling, so FSG brought in a young manager, and young players. They developed those players, sold them on, then the cycle started again. That is how they turned around the Boston Red Sox. Benzema, would not be one of those signings. However, Benzema would definitely strengthen Liverpool’s forward line.
Seydou Doumbia. This Ivory Coast striker is well known for basically one feature, and one feature alone. PACE. He is rapid. If Liverpool were to sign this striker, he would definitely strengthen their team. It is rumoured that they would have to pay 20 million to bring in the CSKA Moscow player.
Xherdan Shaqiri. This Swiss wide-midfielder has been linked with Liverpool constantly over the last few seasons. He has apparently snubbed the reds on a couple of occasions, but Liverpool do not seem to be backing down. He is a very similar young player to Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, and should not cost too much to sign from Bayern Munich. The German giants don’t tend to play Shaqiri, as Thomas Muller is most often playing instead.
Saido Berahino. This young English West Brom striker has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool or Tottenham. The Baggies recently took to twitter to state that no deal for Berahino is currently ongoing, but it is rumored that Berahino wants to join one of the two previously mentioned teams. Apparently, it would only take 14 million pounds to prise the Baggies’ prize possession from their hands.
Victor Valdes. The ex-Barcelona goalkeeper has been floating around England recently, including training with Manchester United. He has actually been spotted with the Manchester United squad down at Old Trafford watching one of their matches. Liverpool do not only face competition from the Red Devils, but also from French Giants PSG, as they search for a back-up to Salvatore Sirigu. Valdes would almost certainly become the number one keeper at Liverpool, as Mignolet has not been completely up to scratch lately.
