Analysis of the Top Four

After twenty-five games played in the Barclay’s Premier League, the end is near. With only thirteen games left to be played, the clubs in the top four spots have added pressure to stay there, because, as supporters know, anything can happen in the Barclay’s Premier League. The race for top four continues to be a tough one, as this the gap between fourth and seventh is only seven points. The results of the top four will certainly come as a surprise at the end of the season as nothing is certain yet.

Graphic to show the top half of the EPL table as it stands
Chelsea: seven points clear from second place, Chelsea lead the way in the Barclay’s Premier League. Their record has been outstanding in the last ten Premier League, as they have earned twenty-three points out of possible thirty (WWWDLWWDWW). The club has managed to score fifty-five goals this season, scoring 2.2 goals per match. However, Chelsea has conceded twenty-one goals, .84 per match, but has kept a clean sheet forty-eight percent of the time. Diego Costa, first year Chelsea player who came from Atletico Madrid, has become the top scorer for the club with a total of seventeen league goals so far. Second, behind Costa, is Eden Hazard with thirteen league goals. Although most expect Chelsea to win the league, anything can happen!

Manchester City: Behind Chelsea, with fifty-two points, is Manchester City. City has managed to score 2.04 goals per match, making it a total of fifty-one goals. However, the club has conceded twenty-five goals, about one per match. Manchester City’s record was going really well, their longest streak being twelve matches unbeaten, but their fate has changed. In the last five games the club has earned six out of fifteen possible points (DLDDW). Despite being injury prone, the Argentine, Sergio Aguero, is the leading scorer for Manchester City with sixteen league goals so far. After Aguero is Yaya Toure and David Silva, both tied with seven goals each.

Manchester United: The club has made quite a turn around since coming in seventh last season, as Manchester United currently hold third place in the Barclay’s Premier League. With a new manager, new tactics, and new players who came in during the summer, Manchester United’s hopes for participation in the Champions League is slowly becoming a reality. As supporters hope to see silverware again soon, the club is trying hard to make that happen as they are still in the FA cup. Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, is currently the club’s leading scorer with thirteen goals to his name. After him follows number ten, Robin Van Persie with ten goals.

Southampton: On the edge of top four in Southampton FC with a total of forty-six points, only one more than Arsenal are in fifth. It’ll be a tough challenge to stay in the top four, will Southampton do it? With a record of four wins, one draw, and one loss in their last six games, Southampton is certainly doing their best to maintain their position. However, their next match is crucial, as the table is pretty tight, the club must earn every point possible. Being that the game is against Liverpool, winning will not come easy. The leading goal scorer for the club, so far, has been Graziano Pelle with fourteen goals. After Pelle, with six goals is Sadio Mane.
