The Italy international, who cost Liverpool 16 million pounds (21 million euros), was substituted and brought on the Anfield pitch to replace Daniel Sturridge after 74 minutes of the game.
In the final moments, Brendan Rodgers went for a party and ushered Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana instead of Sturridge and Markovic, respectively.
With this victory, Liverpool have a total of 42 points and remain one place below Tottenham and three from Arsenal, who are at the fourth place to secure their place in the next edition of the Champions League.
