La Masia (FC Barcelona's football training facility) |
This latest probe comes two years since FIFA first registered their concerns over the Catalan club's recruitment of youth players for their acclaimed La Masia academy. Barcelona were put under a three-month probation period to correct their irregularities back in 2013 and were penalised with a transfer embargo for two transfer windows, starting from January 2015, in April last year.
AS believe that there players in Barcelona's books who were not covered in the previous sanction by FIFA and the world's supreme governing body on football, has requested more information on these players.
The Spanish paper understands that, Fode Fofana and Matias Lacava, two among the five players Barcelona released recently, were not included in the original 31 player list on whom FIFA had earlier requested additional information.
The recent release of youth players maybe a sign that the reigning European champions are attempting to forestall any further drastic actions from FIFA for violating Article 19 of FIFA's regulations on transfers and registrations.
Meanwhile Marca, another leading Spanish newspaper, is under the notion that FIFA is not happy about the recent acquisitions of Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan despite the club still being under a transfer embargo.
Vidal and Turan, although signed, cannot be registered until the embargo is lifted in January 2016.
