Martial living up to the hype - Sir Alex

Sir Alex Ferguson has given his verdict on United's new signing Anthony Martial, saying the striker is proving his worth with his recent performances. Ferguson was talking to the media at the launch of his new book 'Leading'.

Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial scored a brace on his first Premier league start on Sunday against Southampton. This has took him to three goals in two games in the league now. The French striker had earlier opened his account for the club against Liverpool after coming on as a sub.

Anthony Martial moved to Manchester United this summer from French club AS Monaco for a hefty fee of  £36m on transfer deadline day. Manchester United could be paying around £20m more for the teenager depending on clauses. Many were left wondering after the move with the huge amount of money involved.

Martial was soon put into the spotlight, mainly due to United's lack of options in the striker department and the youngster silenced his critics with a wonderfully taken goal against Liverpool after coming on as a substitute. He was duly rewarded with a starting spot against Southampton and he repaid his manager's trust by scoring two goals.

The striker has now scored three goals from his first four shots. He showed great anticipation and composure while scoring the second goal. Latching on to a back pass from Saints defender Maya Yoshida, the French teenager accelerated forward before slotting it past Maarten Stekelenberg.

Sir Alex Ferguson was asked for his opinion on the teenage forward and whether the transfer amount involved was ridiculous. Sir Alex replied. " Ridiculous? Not at the moment it's not!".

Manchester United next play Ipswich Town in their League cup opener on Wednesday night.
