Two of England's heavyweights come up against each other in an early season match up this Sunday. The season is still young but both teams will want to show their intent and desire in this derby clash.
Manchester United lie third in the table currently with 19 points from 8 games. They have not been playing the most entertaining football but they have managed to grind out results at times. After their 3-0 loss against Arsenal, they have bounced back with a 3-0 win over Everton. They followed it up with a draw against CSKA Moscow which is a decent result. They have been very inconsistent this season though, performance wise and result wise and will need to turn up and perform for this game.
Van Gaal's biggest concern will be the form of Rooney. He may keep his place as the striker despite Martial being in such good form in front of goal. Van Gaal will likely start with Schneiderlin and Carrick in the middle.
The visitors, meanwhile are top of the league and look unstoppable at the moment now, scoring eleven goals in their last two league games. With key players, David Silva and Sergio Aguero out, the way they attacked in the last game against Bournemouth would have impressed Pellegrini. Raheem Sterling looks on song now and Wilfred Bony looks like he is getting back to his best.
Manchester City's greatest attacking threat will be Kevin De Bruyne. A revitalised Sterling and Bony will provide support for the Belgian. Vincent Kompany may return for Man City but they will be without Aguero and David Silva.
