The news with respect to the fact that Victor Wanyama is set to renew his contract with Southampton would certainly be music to Ronald Koeman and the fans.
Southampton are currently struggling in the league this campaign, unlike last season when Koeman was able to steady the ship despite a huge upheaval.

Wanyama was very much tracked by top premier league clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal. In fact, the Saints had rejected the move of the Kenyan midfielder to Spurs in the last transfer window. Koeman had stated earlier in the season that he did not want Southampton to be a selling club and wanted them to retain their big players.
Hence, the news that Wanyama may sign a new deal will pretty much please him. The contract of the Southampton midfielder is only till the end of next season and hence, it is vital that he signs a new contract. If that is not the case, Southampton may be tempted to sell the midfielder sooner rather than later in order to get a good enough compensation.
Arsenal were recently tracking the 24 year old and his contract renewal at St. Mary's would certainly be bad news for the North London club.
