This season of the Premier league has been the most unpredictable and the fixtures including the top four this Sunday have lived up to that reputation. The fact that Manchester City, who had two home fixtures, would be coming out of those games empty handed is not something one would have expected.

Tottenham have been almost thrashed in their recent games at the Etihad. The 5-1 mauling that the North London club gave the Citizens earlier this season may have given a feeling of Spurs having finally turned the corner. However, the victory on Sunday would have certainly put any doubt, with respect to this resurgent Spurs side, aside.

The game was quite tactical in the first half and not similar to anything that one has seen in games in the recent past between these two teams. It was far from a spectacle. The biggest chance of the game fell Aguero's way when he scuffed his chance with only the goalkeeper to beat. To be fair, it was a half chance but you expect a striker like Aguero to bury that.

However, moments later, there was controversy on the other hand. Mark Clattenburg inexplicably awarded a penalty for a handball by Sterling. The player was facing the other side when the ball struck his hand and to be fair, the decision was extremely harsh. Kane happily took the opportunity to slot the resulting penalty giving Spurs a vital lead.

However, City then started to up the game with Spurs happy to soak the pressure. However, finally the equalizer did come for City from their Super Sub Iheanacho who struck his shot firmly in the top corner after some good work down the left.

Just when it felt that City had taken the initiative, Spurs dealt the hammer blow to City. Lamela collected the ball in the space left by the attacking City midfielders and put an exquisite ball to Eriksen who calmly slotted the ball past an onrushing Joe Hart.

The victory surely gave the Spurs that all important momentum and successive home defeats against title challengers would surely put Pellegrini under a lot of pressure. The euphoria regarding Guardiola has to stop if City are to gain something from this season.
