Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that a victory against Liverpool in the League Cup final would provide the perfect shot in the arm for the Citizens in the Premier league title race.
City were initially fighting on all four fronts. However, back to back home defeats against title contenders Tottenham and Leicester City along with the shambolic defeat in the FA cup against Chelsea have slightly affected the morale of the team as a whole.
However, the midweek win in the Champions league against Dynamo Kiev has put more than a glimmer of hope and has lifted the spirits of the team. A win against Liverpool in the League Cup and a first trophy in the bag would certainly provide City the belief to close the gap of six points between them and Leicester City.
City have slightly digressed in the last few weeks particularly after the announcement of the imminent arrival of Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola at the start of next season. Pellegrini believes the League cup triumph would be the perfect way to get things back on track.
