4. Illusions of Grandeur
Everyone remembers that one season that Tottenham had in the Champions League. How could we not? It was pretty exciting. Bale's amazing hat-trick against Inter Milan, Peter Crouch's winner at the San Siro in the last 16 - it was a good run.
But lets face facts, Tottenham are not a Champions League club. Every year we hear Spurs fans claiming that they 'deserve' to finish in the top four, and every year they come up short. Man for man, their squad is far weaker than the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. With Southampton now more than a match for them, they will continue to struggle.
World-class players likes Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have made the difference in the past, but they've moved on to serious Champions League contenders.
