The victory at Watford would have really given that much needed impetus to Pellegrini's men. It was not just the victory but the manner in which it was achieved with the winning goal being scored by their star striker Aguero that would have pleased the manager the most.
Aguero has not been at his best this season due to the amount of injuries that he has suffered. However, with him back to his best, it would be very difficult for a Everton side, who have looked listless at times in defence, to stop him. Roberto Martinez has come under criticism for failing to organize an Everton defence who have simply been pathetic as compared to their fluid and entertaining attack.
This was a season for Everton to get into that top four given the under-performance of few of the top clubs. However, Martinez would be thankful for having fewer spotlight on his deficiencies due to the brilliant form of Lukaku and Barkley. A City side who have been brilliant at home certainly have the necessary fire power to coast past this Everton side who have not been good enough defensively.
However, the pair met in the league cup just a few days ago wherein the Toffees gained an important advantage going into the second leg. That victory along with a decent record away from home should provide the necessary confidence to Everton.
Martinez would certainly welcome the return of Jagielka who would most likely replace Funes Mori in defence. He would, however, be worried about the fitness of his star striker Lukaku who may not be able to make it in time for this game. City on the other hand have concerns regarding the fitness of Toure and Silva along with Bony who has a slight calf issue.
Probable Starting lineups:
Manchester City Starting Line up:
Hart, Sagna, Demichelis, Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Sterling, Navas, Aguero
Everton Staring Line up:
Howard, Stones, Jagielka, Oviedo, Baines, Barry, Besic, Barkley, Kone, Deulofeu, Mirallas
Predicted Score:
Manchester City 2-1 Everton
