Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester United :Absolute Madness

After a lacklustre win against a league one side, the United faithful would have least expected that their team would have been involved in such an exciting and enthralling game. Louis Van Gaal has been under pressure for various reasons during the campaign but a performance like this, albeit a draw, would please the fans to say the least.

The match came to life in the ninth minute via a Rooney penalty which was controversially awarded by referee Mike Dean. Newcastle had every right to feel aggrieved given Mbemba did not intentionally handle the ball. United were looking more dangerous as the game went on with Newcastle running out of ideas in the final third.

United felt that they had done enough when Lingard finished a great counter attacking move to score United's second goal. However, just before the end of the first half, Wijnaldum provided a shot in the arm for Newcastle by brilliantly placing the ball past De Gea, who had earlier made a good save to deny the same player.

Newcastle started the second half on the front foot with wave after wave of attacks. However, it was United who had the chance to make it 3-1 when Lingard had a great opportunity to put it past Elliot. That miss by United was made to pay by Newcastle when a needless tangle between Smalling and Mitrovic during a corner made the referee award Newcastle, the second penalty of the game. Smalling has been one of the most improved players for United in this campaign but to be fair, this game was one of his worst by far.

Mitrovic calmly converted the penalty to give the Geordies a well deserved equalizer. However, within a  few minutes, Depay made a good run into the box and his blocked shot was sumptuously finished by Rooney in the top corner giving Elliot no chance. United felt they had won the game , courtesy a Rooney spectacular, who by the way was brilliant in this game. United should have buried the game when Fellaini had a free header which he directed it straight to Elliot.

However, that miss cost United dearly with Dummett hammering a screamer right at the closing stages of the game to give Newcastle the equalizer again for the second time in this highly entertaining Premier league game.
